Indier places a high priority on the realistic management of risk. Because of the varied terrain we operate in; including mountains, sea and river kayaking, biking, service learning and outdoor living components of our programs, participation in Indier programs contains some elements of risk. Due to the risks inherent to our programs, safety is our number one priority. As such the goal of keeping the group safe and healthy precedes any decision prior to and during Indier programs. It is important that each staff member also has this goal in mind throughout each course, taking responsibility for his or her own personal health and safety as well as that of the participants, as such the physical and emotional health of participants, as well as that of teachers and staff, are of the highest priority to us. We continually improve our systems of information gathering, contingency planning, protocols, training and internal reviews to make our courses as safe as possible for everyone involved.
